Salmanul Faris K is a doctoral candidate in Organizational Communication at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), affiliated with the Humanities and Liberal Arts in Management (H&LAM) area.

His research is grounded in the communication-as-organizing perspective and examines how communication processes shape collective sensemaking, coordination, trust, and legitimacy during periods of crisis and uncertainty. He is particularly interested in understanding how narratives, rhetoric, storytelling, and silence function as organizing mechanisms across institutions, organizations, and communities.

His doctoral research focuses on silence as a communicative and organizing phenomenon in crisis contexts, exploring how communication and non-communication influence perceptions of risk, responsibility, and collective action.

Empirically, his work engages with political communication and environmental and disaster communication. In the political domain, he studies how narratives and rhetorical strategies shape public trust, democratic engagement, and state legitimacy. In the context of disasters, he examines crisis communication, early warning systems, social media discourse, and the communicative dynamics of disaster preparedness and response.

As a Research Associate at the India-Japan Centre on Climate and Culture (IJCCC), IIMK, he was part of a research team investigating the aftermath of the 2024 Wayanad landslide disaster. The project involved nine months of fieldwork with affected communities, local institutions, and disaster management stakeholders, examining how memory, risk perception, local knowledge, and communication practices shape disaster response and recovery.

Prior to joining IIMK, he worked as a Teaching Associate in the Communication Area at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA).

Research interests: Organizational Communication, Communication as Organizing, Silence and Voice in Organizations, Crisis Communication, Storytelling, and Public Communication during Political and Environmental Crises.
