Established in 1996 through a collaboration between the Government of India and the State Government of Kerala, the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) is the fifth IIM to be established in India. Spread over about 112.5 acres of land, IIM Kozhikode, is situated on two hillocks in the Kunnamangalam Area of ancient city of Calicut in Kerala. Boasting of one of the most picturesque and oxy-rich campuses in the country, IIM Kozhikode is devoted to nurturing future business leaders in teaching, learning, consulting, research, and innovation.
The growth story of IIM Kozhikode is not just about the numbers, but also about some remarkably innovative initiatives that has set the bench mark for other institutions in the country. The Institute is currently on a high growth trajectory, offering the widest range of academic programmes in the field of management education and has consistently brought notable innovations to programme design and their delivery. Many such innovations were emulated by others, and IIM Kozhikode takes pride in being a change agent that transformed the higher education space in India. The Institute has achieved such success only through academic rigour, research focus and education excellence making brand IIM Kozhikode a household name in India.
With the first flagship PGP course dating back to 1997, started with a batch of 42 students, the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode has grown tremendously over the years to a current student strength of 1200 odd students who graduated in 2024, making it one of the fastest growing management schools in the country. The Institute is on a high growth trajectory today, offering widest range of academic programs in the field of management education. Anticipating the multi-disciplinary approach ushered in by NEP 2020, IIM Kozhikode also has the unique distinction of offering the first MBA programme that intertwines management and humanities by introducing the PGP – Liberal Studies and Management (2020). Other regular full-time MBA programmes include the PGP – Finance (2020) and PGP – Business Leadership (2019). The Doctoral Programme in Management (PhD) offered by IIMK is now in to its 17th Batch and is a full time, residential, fully financially supported doctoral programme of the Institute. PhD (Practice Track) for Working Executives was also initiated in 2019, for the executive participants of this programme enrich business knowledge armed with their industry experience and academic exposure.
IIMK also offers Executive MBA degrees through Executive Post Graduate Programmes - Interactive Learning Mode (EPGP) and Executive Post Graduate Programme (Kochi Campus), which is based out of IIMK’s satellite Campus in Kochi since 2013.
Besides these, IIM Kozhikode also offers Management Development Programmes (MDPs). Over the past two decades IIMK has successfully conducted nearly 1300 MDPs benefiting over 41,000 participants from more than 150 organizations, including several Fortune 500 companies. IIMK has also taken a major initiative for strengthening the country's intellectual infrastructure for management education and training, through the Faculty Development Programmes (FDP).
IIM Kozhikode has set itself an institutional ‘Vision 2047’ of ‘Globalizing Indian Thought’ and is a leading school of thought and universal proponent of the ethics and values that Indian Management system has to offer to the global community. The year 2047 will mark 100 years for Independent India and will also witness IIM Kozhikode completing 50 years in the pursuit of academic excellence. IIMK has identified three guiding principles for the Institute to achieve Vision 2047 – Satyam (Authenticity), Nityam (Sustainability) and Purnam (Fulfilment). The Institute also seeks to inculcate a spirit of wholesome learning and create a unique space of global reckoning thereby nurturing capable and dependable management thinkers in the pursuit of developing socially responsible and environmentally friendly practitioners, leaders and educators who will contribute towards creating a better world.
The Institute is also the first IIM to receive the coveted AMBA accreditation, joining an elite group that includes London Business School, INSEAD, and HEC Paris in 2010. The Institute successfully earned re-accreditations in 2015, 2020, and in 2023 for a five year period, reaffirming its commitment to global academic excellence. IIMK also received the coveted EQUIS accreditation in 2021 and was re-accredited in 2024 for five years. The next milestone is obtaining AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation to complete the coveted Triple Crown Accreditation. As an initial step toward this goal, IIMK became an educational member of AACSB in January 2019. These recognitions underscore the Institute’s pursuit of excellence, innovation, and global relevance in management education.
The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) has steadily grown into one of the top business schools in India and globally. In the NIRF 2025 Rankings, IIMK secured the 3rd position among all management institutes in the country, achieving a remarkable hat-trick of top-three positions (2023, 2024, 2025). Internationally, the Institute made its mark by debuting in the 101+ category in the QS World University Rankings for its Executive MBA (EMBA) in 2020 and its Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in 2021. In 2025, IIM Kozhikode is ranked 141 for Business and Management Studies in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The Executive MBA (EPGP) is ranked 161-170 range in the QS Executive MBA Ranking 2025, while the PGP (Masters in Management) is ranked 141-150 range in the QS Masters in Management Ranking in 2026. IIMK's PGP in Finance secured Rank 201+ in the QS Masters in Finance Ranking 2026, while the PGP in Business Leadership (BL) was ranked in the 201-250 range in the QS Global MBA Ranking 2026. Marking a significant milestone, the EPGP Kochi Programme debuted at Rank 53 globally (and 5th in Asia Pacific) in the QS Online MBA Rankings 2026.
In 2023, IIM Kozhikode made its debut in the global Top 100 of the Financial Times (FT) Rankings, marking a significant milestone in the Institute’s journey toward global excellence. IIMK secured the 76th and 87th ranks for the FT Open and Custom Enrolment Programmes respectively in 2025, with the Custom Programme making an impressive debut in the rankings. Similarly, the flagship PGP in FT Masters in Management Ranking 2025, achieved 69th Rank. Additionally, the PGP in Business Leadership (BL) made a strong debut at Rank 86 in the FT Global MBA Ranking 2025, showcasing the Institute’s growing influence in shaping global business leaders.
IIM Kozhikode has carved out a name for itself by pioneering initiative affirmative action to bring in gender parity in its flagship programme. From a historical low of less than 10%, the Institute touched a high of 54% women in the PGP batch 17 (2013-2015) and went on to repeat the feat in the academic year (2020-2022) for PGP 24 batch.
The ‘Kampus’ is also home to the first Museum dedicated to Indian Business (established in 2013) in the country. It is also the first institution to conceive and create a technology enabled and interactive online executive education programme which is running continuously since 2001.
IIMK is also one of the few Centres for Development of Digital Libraries in the world and is a country leader. A prominent achievement which comes to the limelight is the establishment of an Incubation Centre for Excellence, in collaboration with the Government of Kerala to help the Scheduled Castes/tribes students overcome their deficiencies in communication, personality etc. Incidentally, IIMK is one of the few management institutes in the country who have filled full quota of SC/ST candidates in its Postgraduate Programme on regular basis with sound track record in job placement. With a highly qualified and experienced faculty, and backed by a large number of committed adjunct and visiting faculty from Industry and other leading management institutes including foreign universities, academics is always a high priority. The world class infrastructure includes air-conditioned classrooms, guest care areas and LAN/WAN/ WIFI connectivity, state of the art display screens, which enables every IIMK resident to be exposed to a wholesome experience.
The Institute has a strong International Exchange Programme for students and faculty with several leading Management Institutes in EU and ASEAN countries like SDA Bocconi, Italy, ESCP Business School, France, King’s Business School, UK, IE Business School, Spain, University of Wollongong, Australia and so on. An active member of the Strategic Management Forum, IIMK lays stress on organizing Seminar/Conferences and conducts management programs for teachers.
The institute is also home to IIMK LIVE a first-of-its-kind startup incubation programme supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The center has so far supported 155 startups and 357 promoters under its flagship Business Incubation Program (BIP).
