New 'India-Japan Study and Research Centre' at IIMK Envisaged to become Flag bearer of Academic Collaboration between Two Asian Giants

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode’s growing global reputation and its commitment to ‘Globalizing Indian Thought’ received a shot in the arm with the conclusion of the 103rd meeting of IIMK Board of Governors here recently. The BoG has given its go ahead to the proposal of setting up of an “India-Japan Study and Research Centre” at IIM Kozhikode for enhancing the management education and research competencies in the specific areas of mutual interest between both the countries.

Announcing the Centre, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIMK added, “India and Japan have a long history of bilateral development cooperation. Over the years the relationship between the two countries have progresses to greater heights, particularly in the economic, cultural and industry domains. Considering the current perspectives of both the countries’ interest in various domains we have established this study cum research centre. This initiative will provide for transfer of knowledge and competencies in the areas of mutual interest thereby facilitating research collaborations and students exchange programmes with various Japanese Institutes of higher learning. This will also promote understanding of Japan in India and India in Japan through research, training and other management development programmes. “

Prof. Rajib Shaw of Keio University Japan has been appointed as Visiting Professor for advice to IIMK on Centre activity from Japan. He added “I congratulate IIMK for establishing this Centre. It will have immense potential to contribute not only to two of our countries, it can serve beyond bilateral collaboration in generating and implementing new innovation”

IIM Kozhikode has ongoing collaboration and tie up with more than 50+ foreign universities for students exchange programme through international immersions. IIM Kozhikode has set itself the institutional mission of ‘Globalizing Indian Thought’ and aims to extend the Institute’s academic association with other foreign countries through education and research to foster future education and research activities advantageous to both collaborating partners.
