Why this conclave, why now
The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode launched its Signature International Conclave on Globalizing Indian Thought in 2020. Now in its seventh edition, the conclave has grown into one of the few sustained academic and practitioner platforms in India devoted to examining Indian thought, knowledge systems, and civilizational heritage in relation to contemporary global challenges. Each edition has sought to advance a serious, non-nostalgic engagement with India’s intellectual traditions, asking not merely what India has contributed to the world in the past, but what Indian thought can offer to the pressing questions of the present. The 2026 edition takes place at a defining moment. India has recently concluded its G20 Presidency, cementing its role as a consequential voice in global governance. The country’s economic trajectory, digital infrastructure, space programme, and soft power are all drawing international attention. At the same time, the world is grappling with crises of leadership, of sustainability, of democratic institutions, of meaning, for which dominant Western frameworks offer insufficient answers. The conditions are ripe for a serious conversation about what Indian thought, in its full range and depth, brings to these conversations.
Three dimensions
India's intellectual, philosophical, scientific, creative and strategic imagination — Indian thought and knowledge systems, AI ethics, education, research, leadership, and human judgment.
India's ability to hold many conversations at once — economy, technology, governance, defense, diplomacy, finance, sustainability, enterprise, and global repositioning.
How India makes purpose, identity and belonging — cultural influence, spiritual depth, public narratives, soft power and ethical direction in a fast-changing world.
