Computing facilities at IIMK use powerful computers for providing support for diverse computing requirements, access to bibliographic databases and archives for rapid retrieval of relevant information and for updating and dissemination of academic and research material. The IT setup at IIMK comprises of a multi layered architecture, the lowest layer of which is made up of personal computers and workstations. The next layer consists of File servers and Database servers. The third layer consists of Web server, FTP server, Email server and other high-end servers/computers required high resources demanding tasks. All the buildings including hostels in the campus are part of the campus LAN and all the services available on the LAN can be accessed from any node.
The entire campus has been Wi-Fi enabled to provide mobility to the users in accessing various services available on institute's network. . All the guest houses and residences are connected via WI-FI backbone. Classrooms, Library, Computer Centre and Seminar Hall have been enabled with indoor wireless network.
There are more than 250 High End personal computers connected over the campus LAN under some of the latest Network Operating Systems running on some of the latest high-end Itanium and Dual Xeon based Rack Servers.
A very high capacity Network Storage facility integrated with an automated data backup and recovery system caters to the data storage requirement of all the users.
Network printing facility is available on a wide variety of printers such as Inkjet, Laser, Line and Dot Matrix Printers. All these printers can be accessed from anywhere in the campus. Other equipment available in the centre include Notebooks, CD/DVD Writers, High quality Scanners and LCD Projectors.
All the buildings in the campus are interconnected through a 6 core SMF Gigabit Fiber Optic backbone. The connectivity to Desktops is using 4 pair ECAT 5 UTP cable ensuring a dedicated 100Mbps bandwidth at desktop level. The computer centre acts as the main hub of the network and hosts a layer 3 backbone switch. The workgroup switches are located in the respective buildings. All the hostel rooms are also connected to the campus LAN.

An environment of wide variety of operating systems such as Windows XP Professional, Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server and LINUX has been established at IIMK to make students familiar with latest operating systems.
A wide range of latest software tools and office automation packages such as Visual Studio, JAVA, Macromedia Director, Flash, Systat, SPSS, Limdep, Eviews, MS Office 2003/2007, MS-Projects 2007, Primavera, Oracle 8i, Developer 2000, DB2, CAD/CAM, CorelDraw, Ulead Studio, Endnote, MLP, GAMS, CPLEX, WITNESS, @RISK, Marketing Enginerring for Excel etc. have been made available for the users.

As critical infrastructure, IIMK has made important advances in internetworking its campus, connecting to the outside world via the Internet and to other high bandwidth research networks such as ERNET and RENNIC.
More than 100 Mbps Internet bandwidth is available for the users for round the clock Internet access. A 2 Mbps ISDN line acts as backup to above main Internet connectivity.
Other Communication Infrastructure
We have also implemented one of the most modern communications facilities at IIMK, which provides us voice, data and video communications facilities through a 2 Mbps ISDN line in addition to normal trunks. The facility is VoIP compatible and can easily be upgraded to provide Voice over IP/IP Telephony in the future.
Interactive Distance Learning Infrastructure
We have entered in a MoU with M/s Hughes Escorts Communications Ltd. for offering Interactive Distance Learning Programme on real time synchronous basis. M/s HECL has setup a studio at IIMK for this purpose.
